That's All Folks or Is It?

Although the focus of this blog has been to discuss the evolution of technology and media. I’m pleased to have shared my evolution as a writer and blogger through this experience. As a former entertainment blogger, media personality, and graduate of one of the greatest communication departments in the world, my love for technology runs as deep as the Jordan River. At this point, we’ve come to an intersection in our conversation where we probably won’t meet as frequently and topics may stray away from technology and media but I think I’m here to stay. My Fallout With Entertainment Blogging…. Blogging is a form of expression that I miss and from this experience I’m conflicted with rejoining the community or keeping my comments to myself. After graduating from Alabama State University where I received a Bachelor’s in Communication: Radio and Television. I started blogging for a radio personality for one of Atlanta’s Premier Hip Hop radio stations for about three years. During that time...

Week Eight- Children & Technology

Image
With all this talk about technology, I’m shocked that we’ve yet to discuss my love for music here on this blog. One of my favorite entertainers of all times has to be Whitney Houston. Whenever asked who would I like to meet, dead or alive, Whitney Houston is the first person that always comes to mind. One of my favorite records by her is entitled “Greatest Love of All”. The song highlights the special magic power that children have and how it should be embraced by adults. Luckily, while in elementary school in Georgia, this was a song we heard on a regular basis from our instructors. To be honest, I thought the song was our school motto until I was informed differently. Whitney covered the record and released it in 1985, three years before I was born. The record is legendary and starts by saying “I believe the children are our are future Teach them well and let them lead the way Show them all the beauty they possess inside Give them a sense of pride to make it easier Let the ...

From the color of the logo to the word font on your business cards, the delivery of a company is just as important as the products and services it offers. Oftentimes, many companies are judged by their branding and/or lack of branding. Most people only deal with companies that are willing to invest in themselves and reflect positive and professional images. Having a website or not having a website is important. Deciding whether or not to have a mobile app is very important in this climate. These are just two branding choices a business owner has to make to properly brand themselves. Businesses have a lot of decisions to make in regards to their branding and one bad mistake could have a negative impact on the company's future. Week Six- Crowdsourcing

Since the start of this blog, we’ve explored the advances of technology and several different devices and services that have altered the way we interact with one another. As technology continues to grow and social media continues to blossom, the margin between humans and technology is slowly getting thinner and thinner. More and more each day, devices and services are created to help humans perform and/or communicate better. These advances have led to many life-changing contributions and provided easier ways for people to complete tasks. While the burst of access appears to be a great change for mankind, the amount of content that has entered the cyber world is now startling. With so many people able to access the internet and the internet becoming a open forum, literally anyone, anywhere can make a contribution to the world wide web, regardless true or false. Without any expertise, credentials or authority, many individuals have found a way to use their access as a way to influence ot...

Week Five- Blogging & Citizen Journalism

With the rise of technology and social media, a burst of independency and freedom came about for many not just tech companies. Individuals all over the world found their voice and utilized social media platforms to be heard. With the World Wide Web now a common trend at work and school, for personal and professional needs, people are utilizing their technology and social media to share and inform others. Blogs have given newspaper editorials “wings" on the internet, giving writers and journalists an outlet, as well as, amateurs and naysayers a place to share and possibly connect with like-minded individuals. Without much knowledge necessary, journalism takes a backseat in most cases when it comes to blogging. In some situations, blogs are just an opinionated essay written by an individual and placed on a platform for their followers and subscribers. Many blogs have made positive contributions to society, adding to theories and providing information and insight from a grassroots le...

The advances in technology have not only shaped the way devices are created, it has also shaped the way we communicate. Technology has impacted how companies communicate with consumers, teachers with students, parents with kids, business professionals with peers and vice versa. With the help of new hi-tech products and services, communication is continuing to evolve along side technology. Social media has taken this evolution to new heights. With popular social networking platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram growing daily, it is very obvious that these platforms are here to stay. Over the years, I seen the evolution of social media in my personal and professional life. Luckily, as a graduate student, I’ve seen many of my instructors incorporate social media in the classroom, allowing us to see its importance in our personal lives and in our careers. As time continues, my usage of social media has changed and evolved just like technology and the networking platforms. Initially...

Week Three- Mobile and Strategic Communication

Image
Speaking from experience, sometimes I feel as if my mobile devices have taken over my life. From my tablet to my smartphone, I’m always in need of one to complete a task or bring forth an idea. Most products and services I use have added to my addiction with their user-friendly websites and applications. My statements are far from complaints but more of me realizing how attached I am to these devices. Maybe I Should Unplug….. Throughout the years, I’ve realized how important having access on the go has been to my career. In the past in my personal life, I’ve had to separate myself from my mobile devices and certain applications due to the amount of time invested. I’ve used fasting techniques to discipline myself and sometimes take my mobile devices away for weeks at a time so that I won’t dependent on them or get distracted by them. During these moments of separation, I’ve been able to accomplish a lot of personal goals but at the cost of some of my professional obligations . Long s...
